Most connections now carry both IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time. This test confirms whether an IPv4 route is working and which address is presented to the internet — useful when a site, game or service only accepts IPv4.
How it works
- 1Open the page and wait for the IPv4-only endpoint to answer.
- 2Check the returned address and the response time.
- 3Compare it with the IPv6 test to see whether your connection is dual-stack.
What if there is no response?
It means no usable IPv4 route existed at that moment. That is uncommon and usually points to a misconfigured VPN, a corporate firewall, or an IPv6-only network relying on translation.
Can IPv4 and IPv6 work together?
Yes, and that is the normal setup today. Your device holds both routes and picks the better one per connection, which is why the address shown by each test can differ.
